They currently play for the Southern Division of the American Football Conference for the NFL. The franchise originated in Texas as the Houston Oilers, the team was a charter member of the AFL. They hold two AFL Championships before they became a part of the NFL during the merger of the two leagues.

Moving to Tennessee in 1997, while waiting for their new stadium, the team played in Memphis two season before settling in Nashville. They were the Tennessee Oilers before becoming the Titans in 1999. Playing in Memphis for two years caused confusion for fans who didn't wish to support a team that would leave for their rival city in only a short time. Nashville fans didn't want to drive 200 miles to see their hometown team, either, so the support was some of the lowest since the 1950s. But the team carried the legacy of the Oilers with them.

The team would continue on to make playoff appearances in 2002 and 2003, but had a disappointing 2004 season with a 5-11 record. Many key players were traded to free up money for other player acquisitions.

Titans News:

As the offseason free agency period movers towards the drafts at the end of April, Titans fans are starting to think about Titans tickets. Tennessee Titans' stadium, LP Field, on the banks of the Cumberland River, long a favorite with football fans is currently undergoing spring cleaning, but soon all that will change and the football season will begin again. Titans have been active in the transfer market, and news in late March is that The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent safety Bryan Scott, and have signed him on a new contract. Scott comes to play at LP Field from the New Orleans Saints, playing the previous three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

"This is another case of us addressing our depth and bringing veteran playing experience to our team," said Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt. "Bryan has experience at both safety spots and even corner; has made over 30 career starts and is still a young player who will contribute to this team."

Scott (6-1, 219) has recorded 230 tackles, four interceptions and 3.5 sacks in 56 career games, including 36 starts and two postseason starts. The four-year veteran joined New Orleans last year during the offseason trades from the Atlanta Falcons. 2004 was his best statistical season. In that season, Scott registered 85 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception starting for Atlanta 16 times.Scott is a native of Warrington, Pennsylvania, and was Pennsylvania Player of the Year at Central Bucks High School.

Tickets for seats at LP Field to see the Titans will be going on sale soon enough, and the renewed Titans roster will hopefully serve them well through the 2007 football season schedule.
