The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were founded in 1976 and play in the Southern Division of the National Football Conference.

However in the harder years, even the fans' patience wore out, leading them to wear bags on their heads and chant "Go for O" for zero wins in the 1977 season. In 1979 the team rapidly improved their standing. They landed their first winning season in their history, a 10-6 record. They also won the Central Division, but lost to the Rams 9-0. They made the playoffs again in 1981, but saw a downward spiral from 1983 to 1995. They were the worst team in the league, due to poor trades and lack of discipline.
With new ownership, from 1996 to 2001 the team returned to contention. A new head coach, new funding and ownership allowed the Bucs to become competitive. 1997 brought the team back to the playoffs, not making it past the NFC Championship. The crowning glory was the 2002 season Super Bowl win over the Oakland Raiders.
As the Arizona meetings, offseason training, and free agency trade periods merge, the new season begins to make people think about Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets, and the magic of being in the Buc's Raymond James Stadium. The Tampa Bay roster is in need of an offseason massage, and Bucs Coach Jon Gruden has stated that Tampa Bay have enough firepower needed to move up in next month's NFL draft, referring to the possible acquisition of a quarterback in the first round. Speaking briefly Monday before an Arizona meetings seminar, Gruden discussed the 11 players added to the Tampa Bay roster since the start of free agency in early March.
"Our offseason is just beginning, really," said Gruden, coming off a disappointing season in the NFC South. "We've still got the draft and some unattended business, but we've got some players in here that we know can play.
"It's exciting to have a Jeff Garcia here. Luke Petitgout is a guy who has played left tackle and Cato June is a good football player. Kevin Carter can play a lot of positions, and B.J. Askew is an interesting guy.
"It was nice to sit in quarterback school last week with a healthy Chris Simms, a Bruce Gradkowski, who has played 13 games in this league, plus a veteran guy we like. We're excited about our quarterback situation, plus we've got Jake Plummer to talk about. We'll see what happens there." Tampa Bay occupy the number 4 overall pick spot in the draft, which starts April 28 in New York, and Gruden mentioned two possible quarterback prospects, JaMarcus Russell of LSU and Brady Quinn of Notre Dame.
"Sitting at number 4 is really good," Gruden said. "Plus, we have two second-round choices. It's nice to have an opportunity to get better in the draft, too."
Despite the difficult previous season, Gruden was looking forward to the future, and the Buc's enthusiastic assault on the free agency options seems to have generated a belief in Gruden, which will surely be transmitted to the team. He knows that things will have to be resolved in order to fill the seats at Raymond James Stadium, and sell Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets in the kinds of numbers the club needs to. "Tough season? It was devastating," he said. "But you look at the film and understand why you are where you are. You've got to show resolve, though, and that's what we're going to do."
The Buccaneers enjoyed two seventh-round picks in the 2007 draft Monday. The compensations were awarded under the Collective Bargaining Agreement because Tampa Bay lost Jameel Cook, Dexter Jackson and Todd Steussie as compensatory free agents, while signing Jamie Winborn.
