A number of Hall of Fame members have played for the Rams franchise, Dan Dierdorf, Jackie Smith and Larry Wilson are honored in the Ring of Honor at the Edward Jones Dome. The team was the first American football team to place their logo on their helmet. Halfback Fred Gehrke in 1948 painted ram horns on the team helmets which created the team's trademark.
Some of the team's most important players are Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. The trio was one of the fastest defenses ever, and gained the nickname "The Greatest Show on Turf." From 1999-2001 this group scored over 500 total points per season, setting a new record.
Saint Louis Rams are gearing up for the new season, and football tickets will be going on sale soon, as the football schedule is revealed. In other news, important offensive player Marshall Foulk recently announced that he was considering quitting the game, and this has indeed come to pass. Marshall Faulk's decision to retire from football follows a season of absence due to a knee injury, and some cushy times spent as a football reporter, during which the offensive yard-grabber had plenty of time to take stock of where his career was going. Faulk officially announced his retirement Monday March 26, 2007. He's currently ninth on the NFL's career rushing list.
Faulk was the NFL MVP for 2000, and his 6,875 yards receiving are the most ever among running backs. Faulk was single-handedly responsible for creating a huge demand for Saint Louis Rams tickets, being such an impact making player, and though he'll miss the game he knows he must think about the future.
"Just being around the game last year, I realized how much I love it," Faulk said. "But my health is everything. And I didn't want to return if I couldn't get through a full season. It all came together when a close friend asked me 'How many 34-year-old running backs are there?"
Scott Linehan, the current head coach who replaced Mike Martz in January of 2006, was partly responsible for maintaining the offense he inherited that came to be called The Greatest Show on Turf", which of course featured Faulk, along with Torry Holt, and Issac Bruce. The new Rams roster will miss Faulk, but there'll surely be some new faces in there, to fill the seats in the Edward Jones Dome, when the football season begins and the tickets go on sale. This 2007 season, Linehan will be determined to try for the first Super Bowl since early 2000, and football crazy Saint Louis Rams fans will be right behind him, football tickets in hand, filling the Edward Jones Dome.
