They are the only team to have played in both the AFC and the NFC, as they are the only team to have switched conferences, twice. They rose to the Super Bowl once, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team was named through a public contest, and has since secured five division titles, and won the NFC Championship Game in 2005. This broke the longest stretch of no playoff wins for any team, starting from 1984.

The early years endeared the team nationally, especially after an appearance on Monday Night Football in 1979. After that year and the winning seasons before it, a dark season descended on the team. Until 1982 they saw losing seasons each year.

In 2002 the team moved from their AFC member status to becoming part of the NFC West when they moved to Seahawks Stadium where they currently play. The division was shuffled when the Houston Texans joined the league. High expectations followed, especially in the 2004 season, but had a turn for the worst. They recovered however, and won their first NFC title over the New York Jets.

Seahawks News:

The Seattle Seahawks, due to an expanded partnership with Virginia Mason Medical Center, are naming their new state of-the-art football training facility the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC). The 200,000 square foot facility, second largest in the NFL, will be scheduled to open in the summer of 2008. The property is conveniently located close to Interstate 405 to the east, and will be used year-round for all Seattle Seahawks training activities. This move is another indication that the Seahawks are on the up and up, since they won last year's Wild Card Playoffs. Fans of the Seattle side are optimistic and there's a belief in the city that a Playoffs result this season can kick-start a new era of success and economic upturn. The 2005 Super Bowl team that lost to Pittsburgh stands as a testament to Seahawks Fans who will do anything to obtain Seattle Seahawks tickets so they watch their heroes in their Qwest Field stadium.

Seattle football fans have a giant reputation when it comes to making noise at the game, and the old Kingdome was considered the loudest stadium in the NFL. As a tribute to the fans eardum-shattering support, the Seahawks retired the number 12 jersey on December 15, 1984. Since then number 12 Jerseys are bought by fans and worn as a Seattle Seahawk statement, with the name "Fan" on the back. The Seahawks raise a flag bearing the number 12 before games at their Qwest Field stadium, often bringing in a prominent individual to perform the ceremony.

In the 2005 season the fans were honored with the presentation of a commemorative game ball for their vociferousness in a game against the New York Giants, in which the Giants committed 11 false start penalties due mainly to the noise issuing from the Seahawks fans. Seattle Seahawks football tickets are understandably guarded very jealously all around the city, by those who know where to find them, as a day in the Qwest Field stadium is a rare treat for most.
