Originally formed as a semi-pro "small town team" that comprised the NFL during the '20s, the Packers are the last example of what was so common at the time. The Packers joined the professional league (NFL) in 1921. The franchise holds the record for the most NFL League Championships, 12, which were won prior to the Super Bowl era. They have also won three Super Bowls. They are the only non-profit community-owned major league pro sports team in the US. The Packers are also the only team to win three NFL titles in a row, and they did that twice.

During the 1960s, the Packers led the NFL and were even featured as the face of the league on the cover of Time Magazine in December of 1962. Much of the team's success is attributed to the leadership skills of Vince Lombardi, and the large group of legendary stars that were assembled to form the team. Lombardi would leave the team in 1967, the same year that the team secured their third straight Super Bowl win, a feat no team has reached since.

Packers News:

Last year's (2006) Green Bay off-season program worked to transform the atmospherics in the workout environment. The aim was the creation of a cohesive team dynamic that Head Coach Mike McCarthy felt wasn't there. This year, McCarthy and his coaching staff are taking things up a notch. The Packers' four-game winning streak at the close of the 2006 season, plus higher player turn-outs for this year's off-season program, have inspired in the camp a firm belief in the potential for this team to hit the heights once again. Fan turn-outs for games are also expected to rise this season, and the demand for Green Bay Packers football tickets will be strong. The Green Bay roster oozes talent, and with fresh activity in the free agency period, that potential is looking like a Super Bowl possibility. The Packers have incorporated several new aspects of healthfulness into their off-season routine, and it is expected that these will pay off in the form of greater physical robustness and stamina for the coming schedule.

The application of screening exams, to be undergone by players the first day of the off-season program, will help monitor players' progress throughout off-season routines. The scan includes movement screening and a body scan, and composes cutting-edge medical technology. This year will mark the first time the entire team will be tested.

"We catered more to the group last year," McCarthy said. "It was the importance of working out together and creating the atmosphere. We're improving this year because we're getting more specific to the individual athlete."

The movement screening will be the first step, involving every player participating in a series of seven fundamental physical motions associated with athletics, such as twisting, squatting, lunging, and stretching. The coaching staffs will apply vigilance to determine whether the players display weaknesses in going through these movements, or trouble with equilibrium or form. The Packers are the first team in the NFL to utilize this technology, and it is expected that others will follow.

Responsibilities for the Green Bay coaching staff are different from a year ago in that focus has moved from the construction and planning of 2006 to potential improvement and Super Bowl glory in 2007. From the sky boxes to the bleachers, Green Pay Packers fans will be roaring on their heroes, and it is expected that tickets sales will rise to reflect the new enthusiasm and optimism at large at Lambeau Field stadium.

"We didn't do scheme evaluations last year of how we performed, analyzing plays and things of that nature, because we were building a playbook," offensive line coach James Campen said. "Now it's fun to be able to evaluate your own guys and see them working within an offense. Instead of speculating on a lot of people, we can see the offense, how it works, and how to make corrections."

Having keystones like Campden positioned at the base of the Green Bay structure ensures Green Bay will extend the football success enjoyed at the end of last season, at both home and away games.
