They began as an expansion team, and were named after a fan naming contest by one who suggested the Ravens as they related to the Edgar Allan Poe poem, "The Raven." Poe lived the later part of his life in the city and is buried there.

The 2000 season was a good one for the team, as they started with a strong 5-1 record. They also broke two NFL records, one over the former Bears' record for holding opposing teams to 165 points for the season. They also broke the Bears' record for holding teams to 970 yards rushing. They advanced past the Broncos to the AFC Championship, where they took the Raiders. Once in Tampa for Super Bowl XXXV, the Ravens dominated the game and limited the Giants' scoring to one kickoff return, winning 34-7. They became only the third wild card team to win a Super Bowl Championship. In 2003 the team won their first AFC North Division title, after their 2002 move from AFC Central. They won again in 2006.

Ravens News:

The Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has stated that they could field a competitive team today, never mind in September when the new season begins. The dark horses (or should I say birds) from Baltimore expect to be more than prepared when the time comes, and Baltimore Ravens tickets are expected to be seeing some movement in the coming months. Newsome is convinced the Ravens' roster is almost ready to trot onto the field of battle, and says that, with the help of a couple more class additions in the April draft, the Ravens will be muscled up and swooping to kill, whether at homes games in the M and T Bank Stadium, or at away games across the land.

"From my perspective, from a personnel standpoint, we can line up and play tomorrow," he said. "But, we still have some things to do in free agency, and we still have some things to do in the draft."

The new M&T Bank Stadium, located at Camden Yards, is one of the AFC's leading sporting venues. Baltimore Ravens tickets are prized by local fans, who enjoy the plush boxes and seats, as well as instant action-replays on SmartVision video screens. The capacity of M&T Bank Stadium is over 70,000, and it is a pleasure for fans to grace the home segment of the AFC schedule. Baltimore Ravens tickets have taken on a new significance since the stadium was opened in 1998. Costing $220 million, there are 119 executive suites and 8,196 club seats. The stadium was completed in under 2 years and funded by both the Baltimore Ravens and the City of Baltimore, through a variety of devices. But remember, the Baltimore Ravens' roster is pumped and raring to go, and with premium tickets available for that special stadium, the temptation to attend home games is surely irresistible.
