It was 1978 when the Falcons made the playoffs for the first time, in the "Big Ben Right" game. They progressed with a 9-7 record and beat the Eagles on Christmas Eve before being defeated by the Cowboys.

In 1971 the team saw their first winning season, winning their first nationally televised game as well. In the '80s the Falcons got a new logo, designed to look like an uppercase F. The 1991 team made the playoffs as the sixth seed with a 10-6 record. This ended an eight-season losing streak. But 1998 would be their best season to date, as they rose to a 14-2 record and qualified for Super Bowl XXXIII. They were the most celebrated team in NFL history that year.
